A585 Windy Harbour to Skippool statutory consultation

Overview

We are consulting on our proposed improvements for the A585 Windy Harbour to Skippool.

Following feedback from the consultation that we held in 2016 and further design development, we made our Preferred Route Announcement on 24 October 2017. You can find out more details about the previous consultation and our preferred route on the previous consultation page.

This statutory consultation is your opportunity to express your views on the design of the proposed scheme in advance of our application for a Development Consent Order (DCO) to authorise construction of the project.

Businesses, local authorities, public bodies, road users and the communities and neighboring areas can play an important part in the development of the scheme design. Your feedback is therefore essential to this consultation as it will enable us to improve the scheme before we start the planning process.

About the scheme

The A585 is the main transport link to the northern part of the Fylde peninsula and it plays a huge part in supporting the local economy. It is heavily congested between Windy Harbour and Skippool and drivers currently suffer from long delays during peak periods. Congestion is particularly severe at the junction with the A586 at Little Singleton and the signalised junction with the A588 at Shard Road. With a high number of accidents reported at these junctions safety is also an issue.

We are proposing a scheme which will reduce congestion and improve journey times to support employment, economic development and growth opportunities. Our scheme also aims to make the road safer and more accessible for local users, walkers and cyclists.
